Wednesday's Before and After Furniture Makeover

BEFORE
This buffet/sideboard needed a significant attitude adjustment.  I loved the detail on the front but the chipped and peeling veneer was an eyesore....  Ooh, I know just what this needs...

AFTER

Now with a sophisticated black and white themed look with some sassy red knobs, this could be a multipurpose piece... Think Bar, Buffet, etc etc. Meet my newest creation... "SPEAKEASY".

Detail on middle drawers.  Would you like Cabernet or Zin?

No bar is complete without the music...(side cabinet door details)

  3. The spots where the veneer was coming off, did you fill that in somehow and paint over? I have almost this exact sideboard that I want to redo into a vintage look.

  4. When veneer is pealing off, I remove as much of the loose stuff as possible then use spackling paste to fill in the area. Sometimes this reqires a couple of layers with sanding in between coates to get a nice even finish. Once you paint, it is sealed, so be sure to have sanded all the bumps out well. If you are decoupaging over these areas I would still fill in the areas because you will see the uneveness and it will not look as nice. You could try to reglue veneer that is loose but not too damaged. Good luck with your project. Decoupaging on a piece with damaged veneer is an ideal solution to give it new life!!

seems as though you relied on the video to make your point.
You clearly know what youre talking about, why waste your intelligence on just posting videos to your blog when you could
be giving us something informative to read?

  9. Hmm it appears like your blog ate my first comment (it was
extremely long) so I guess I'll just sum it up what I had written and say, I'm thoroughly enjoying your blog.
I too am an aspiring blog blogger but I'm still new to the whole thing. Do you have any tips and hints for novice blog writers? I'd certainly appreciate it.
